Living in the era of a rush life, racing against the clock and, always focused just on getting things done, we have made everything easily accessible virtually, even meeting people on social media. We often don't take time to make new connections or bond with people within our community, creating a gap of knowledge on diversified people living around us. Thanks to schools or social clubs which gives us a platform to meet people in the community, but this isn't the case all the time.
I have noticed, with every new relationship made, one thing that connects me to people almost immediately is “food”. They would say, “I love Indian food! I like to cook them but it looks complicated” and... Bingo! I now have a topic to converse and bond with my new connection. Food is the way to people’s heart and there are very few who dislike food.
A platform where regular home cooks like us who can share tricks and tips in cooking new cuisines to an audience from our community, will not only be a culture exchange platform but also a socialization medium. The more we know about people’s background, culture, history and origin of their cuisines, more respect and affinity we develop among each other. Because everyone has a story to share!
We are so excited to have launched “The Naan- Americans” or “ TNA” on March 9th, 2017, followed by our Launch party on the 10th of March with a group of friends from the community and our TNA team.
The Launch party was a huge success! We had a cooking showcase on how to make “Masala Dosa”. Masala Dosa was listed as number 49 on World's 50 most delicious foods. It is a kind of pancake from Southern India, made from fermented rice batter, stuffed with cooked spiced potatoes and served with Coconut Chutney. After the demo, each one of them made their own Masala Dosa to taste. According to MA state law, we cannot serve food from home kitchens but you can taste the food that we showcase at your own will.
The launch party was followed right after the cooking demo, with flying corks and toasts for “TNA” and for a beautiful evening spent. Most importantly, the experience of feeling, sensing and tasting new ingredients and cuisine touched the hearts of our guests like no other and the bonding made over food with old friends and some new, will convert into something wonderful in the coming days.
This was meant to happen at "The Naan- Americans" kitchen!
